Rose of Tralee contestant Monica Reid, who was reported missing by her family, has been found dead but police are not treating her death with suspicion.

They had called on members of the public to help find their loved one after she disappeared without trace, while her sister Cecilia travelled from her home in Australia to join the desperate search for Monica in New Zealand, making a public appeal to her sister.

Monica was last spotted on Friday, June 14 in a waterfront suburb of West Auckland. Frontline police, the police maritime unit, land and police search and rescue and detectives were all out looking for the 26-year-old.

The news of the discovery of a body was broken by police who said 'Her death is not being treated as suspicious and will be referred to the Coroner. Police extend our sympathies to the woman's family and loved ones.'

Monica's sister Cecilia described her sister as 'A much-loved friend, sister, and aunty of a large family... all of us, we love Monica so much.'

Since the news was released the Auckland Irish Club sent their condolences to the family in a statement stating 'Sending lots of love and condolences to the family of Monica Reid. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May she rest in peace.'

Monica represented Auckland in the New Zealand round of the Rose of Tralee and competed in the national final in May but was ultimately not chosen to travel to Ireland for the final of the contest.

She held a BA in theatre, film and Italian and worked as a Transport Network Optimiser at Waka Kotahi.

She was planning to do a Masters in Urban Planning with a particular focus on Climate Justice, and she was also a Mental Health First Aid Responder.
