Lentil Soup

I have a lot of different soup maker recipes here on Recipe This. But did you know which one is my favourite above all others?

You guessed right it is lentil soup.

Yet as a kid, like most fussy kids I thought that lentils were disgusting and something that looked like rabbit food.

Now fast forward to age 41 and I would eat lentils everyday given the chance.

Beyond this delicious lentil soup, I love to cook lentils in the instant pot such as instant pot green lentils and then use those just cooked lentils in our air fryer vegan lentil burgers.

But if you are there with a fussy kid reading this (my daughter looks at them with suspicion too), then red lentils are the way to go.

That is because when you make red lentils soup the lentils dissolve into the soup, so your kids will never know! So just tell them its cream of tomato soup!

Today, I will be sharing with you, lentil soup ingredients, soup maker lentil soup, how much lentils for soup and so much more.

If you fancy some more lentil ideas do try instant pot lentil curry, instant pot sausage and lentil casserole, instant pot red thai curry soup.

DifferentSized Soup Makers

This soup maker tomato and lentil soup is made with our Morphy Richards Soup Maker. It is rather small compared to some soup makers.

If you have a bigger soup maker such as the Ninja Soup Maker or the Cuisinart Soup Maker, you can double the recipe ingredients and easily make enough for four people.

If you are working with a small soup maker, like we are, then Iwould recommend dicing the tomatoes fairly small, so that all ingredients canfit in.

Lentil Soup Ingredients

Lentils – Lets start with the lentils. We used some dried red lentils and we recommend just 100g which is half a cup. They expand so much in a soup recipe, so you don’t want to add too many.

Tomatoes – We used 6 salad size tomatoes and found that this was plenty. Plus, the juices from the tomatoes help with the red lentils with lentils being so thick.

Veggies – Then for extra veggies we recommend also adding an onion, and some carrots. Then for extra flavour we also added in some garlic.

Stock – I recommend some veggie stock to make your basic lentil soup recipe taste more flavoursome. We make our own instant pot veggie stock and then freeze it for soups and stews.

Seasonings – For seasonings, we are keeping this recipe for lentil soup really easy and adding salt, pepper, coriander leaf (cilantro), sweet paprika and are also adding the coconut lime seasoning from M&S.

You can mix and match your seasonings, for example in our soup maker lentil soup video we used a Thai spice mix from Aldi.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this tomato and lentil soup for then soup maker it has just been our Ninja Soup Maker. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of soup maker recipes.

Plus, we recommend you head over to our soup maker recipes category as we have more than 50 tried and tested soup maker recipes and have been using soup machines for 7 years.

A bit of soup maker trivia for you. The soup makers all have different cook times on them with their chunky and smooth soup settings. Morphy Richards is 28 minutes and the Ninja soup maker we are using is 30 minutes.

This lentil soup in the soup maker needs just 25 minutes so you can cancel the cook if you are bored of waiting or just wait for the 30 minutes to be up.

Notes

Seasonings. I often refer to this as my spicy but simple lentil soup. You can mix and match the seasonings based on your mood and what spices you have in. For example, I made this today with coconut lime seasoning from M&S but I often make it instead with garam masala or a Thai seasoning.
