The San Angelo Standard-Times is keeping a live blog of winter weather updates as freezing temperatures affect the area. Check back frequently as more information is provided.

5:25 p.m.—NWS: A lot of melting is going on across the area with plenty of sunshine and temperatures above freezing. All that melting is going to refreeze with temperatures dipping back into the 10s tonight. Roads could be slick, especially lightly trafficked ones, so please still take caution if you're on the roads tonight!

11:38 a.m.—Concho Valley TransitService Update: Route 7 is now in service, however, it will not stop at the COG today due to the icy road conditions.

11:06 a.m.—Trash service is up and running today. Please keep all carts out from Thursday and Friday so Republic Services can collect everything.

10:10 a.m.—From NWS: Lots more sunshine today. And "warmer" although still certainly colder than normal. Highs will climb into the low to mid 30s this afternoon, with wind chill readings climbing into the 20s too. We can start to work on melting some of the ice and snow into the soil where it does some good.

10:10 a.m.—Concho Valley TransitService Update: Due to icy road conditions, Route 7 ill be delayed until further notice. Call 325-947-8729 to set up a ride to or from a Route 7 bus stop.

9:25 a.m.— From TxDOT: We still have 225 conditions of ice/snow being reported around our 15 county district., especially on the FM & RM roads. Conditions will improve with warming temps and sunshine today.

9 a.m.— Current temperature in San Angelo, Texas: 20 F. Current temperature in Moscow, Russia: 25 F (6 p.m.)

7:17a.m.— Meteorologist Brad Sowder: I-10 hasn't moved in 12 hours. Bad for truckers, but those in cars have likely had an even more miserable night in single-digit windchills. This backup is miles long near Kerrville, TX.

6 a.m.—Concho Valley TransitService Update: Local demand response service will be delayed Friday, Feb. 4, until 10 a.m.and fixed route will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Thursday

5 p.m.— Concho Valley Transit: Service Update: Out of abundance of caution, all rural trips into San Angelo will be suspended on Friday 02/04/22. We will continue to monitor local conditions and update on any delays or cancellations for our fixed route and demand response services.

3:56 p.m.— Texas Department of Public Safety: Due to inclement weather, several DPS offices, including driver license offices, across the state will be closed or have a delayed opening on Friday, Feb. 4, 2022.

3:15 p.m.— The San Angelo Standard-Times newspaperwill have delayed delivery on Friday due to inclement weather.

2:35 p.m.—From NWS: Very cold temperatures are forecast overnight along with dangerous wind chill values. A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect from 6 PM this evening through 10 AM Friday, for wind chill values between 3 degrees and -7 degrees. In addition, as the sun goes down, any ice/snow that melted will quickly refreeze, resulting in black ice. Although driving overnight is highly discouraged, if you have to venture out overnight, use extreme caution and watch for ice on roadways.

2:29 p.m.—City of San Angelo offices will delay opening on Friday, Feb. 4 due to potential icy conditions on roadways. City offices will open at 10 a.m. Feb. 4. We encourage citizens to check local weather services for updates regarding road conditions before traveling. Please use caution when driving in icy conditions and take your time if you have to get out and travel on the roadways.

2:05 p.m.—From NWS:The accumulating precipitation has come to an end, however, road conditions remain hazardous across the area due to widespread ice and snowpack. Although some partial melting has taken place, this is expected to re-freeze on the roads after sunset. Even some spots that may appear to be clear will likely have black ice. Road conditions will therefore become very icy and slippery overnight and through tomorrow morning. Non-essential travel is therefore discouraged.

By tomorrow afternoon, some additional melting may occur as more sunshine is expected and temperatures may get above freezing for a short time. However, some of this may re-freeze yet again on Friday night, making roads slippery on Saturday morning.

12:30 p.m.— AEP Texas: As of 12:30 p.m., approximately 3,200 AEP Texas customers were without power, predominantly in the Cisco community near Abilene and the Ballinger/Winters area.

11:57a.m.— AEP Texas reported power outages Thursday morning in Winters and Rising Star due to transmission line issues, said spokesman Greg Blair. According to online data, as of 11 a.m., 1,611 customer outages were reported in Winters, while 1,271 were reported in Rising Star. Both areas had an estimated restoration time of 3 p.m., according to AEP's website.

11:35 a.m.— NWS: Temperatures late this morning are in the mid teens to lower 20s across West Central Texas. Temperatures this afternoon might climb a few degrees, but will likely remain steady. A few flurries remain possible this afternoon, but no additional accumulations are expected.

11:29a.m.— Nixle alert from SAPD:Avoid the area of 33rd Street and N Bryant southbound due to a vehicle accident, the southbound lanes are completely blocked.

11:28a.m.— SAPD: Please don’t drive if you don’t have to. We have received multiple calls to assist motorists and accidents this morning. As the day continues, the road conditions will continue to deteriorate so please only drive unless you absolutely have to.

11 a.m.— From Abilene Reporter News: AEP Texas reported power outages Thursday morning in Winters and Rising Star due to transmission line issues, said spokesman Greg Blair.According to online data, as of 11 a.m., 1,611 customer outages were reported in Winters, while 1,271 were reported in Rising Star.Both areas had an estimated restoration time of 3 p.m., according to AEP's website.

10:45 a.m.— From Concho Valley Transit: Service Update: Due to safety concerns over the road conditions, CVT has made the decision to suspend all services for the remainder of the day. Please check back for any further updates.

10:25 a.m.— San Angelo Police are responding to multiple vehicle crashes or vehicles stuck on icy streets. Travel is highly discouraged across the area while temperatures remain below freezing.

10a.m.— NWS said the Drive Texas map this morning is showing hazardous road conditions across all of West Central Texas. Numerous accidents have been reported across the region and travel today is highly discouraged. High temperatures today will only be in the teens to lower 20s, so roads will likely remain hazardous through the day. For the latest road conditions, please visit drivetexas.org.

9:50 a.m.— From Kimble County Sheriff's:Multiple Tractor-Trailers are now disabled at MM464 Westbound. The previously well traveled outside lane is now hard compacted ice.The hills are especially difficult for trucks.We echo the messages of surrounding counties, do not travel on IH10 unless it is a medical emergency.The conditions seem to be worsening.

9:23 a.m.— Park headquarters at South Llano River State Park will be closed for the day 2/3/22 due to ice accumulation and unsafe road conditions. The park remains open, and self-pay can be utilized by the public, but please use caution. Campers may experience frozen faucets at campsites, so water access may be limited.

9 a.m.— From NWS:Traffic on I-20 near Sweetwater is at a standstill at 630 AM, although technically not closed...as icy conditions are keeping cars and trucks off the roadway. A band of snow along east of Throckmorton...Abilene...San Angelo...Sonora line at 6:30 a.m.was moving eastward and snow and sleet will be ending by noon across West Central Texas. Hazardous driving conditions will continue through the day as temperatures remain in the teens to around 20 degrees.

9 a.m.— From AEP Texas:Loss of a transmission line between Ballinger and Winters has left most of Winters and much of Ballinger without power. We are aware of the outage; so, there is no need to call the phone center. Crews are expected to address the issue this morning as soon as they can safely do so. It is too soon to accurately estimate how quickly power will be restored. Thank you for your patience.

7 a.m.— SAPD: Some bridges & structures have started freezing over throughout the county. There have been reports of black ice on Hwy 87 South.

6 a.m.— San Angelo ISD, as well as several area schools are closed Thursday and Friday. See this list for more information.

6 a.m.— City of San Angelo is closed Thursday.

6 a.m.— Republic Serviceshas canceled all trash-related services for Thursday, Feb. 3, due to icy road conditions. They will monitor the weather for a possible Friday service. Residents are encouraged to keep their carts at the curb and not move them up so that Republic has access to the carts on any makeup days.
